A brand new

Harlowbury Primary School

A Brand New Harlowbury Primary School

The new school planned to be built at Gilden Way would be an expansion and relocation of Harlowbury Primary School. The school has existing planning consent and is in the process of being designed and constructed by Morgan Sindall Construction. However, for the scheme to go ahead it is dependent on funding from this development.

It has been carefully designed to meet the current and future need for primary school places created by both families moving into the new homes at Gilden Park and existing family households in Old Harlow.

Location plan

Harlowbury Primary Academy would be a two-form entry school with a capacity for 420 pupils.  Importantly, it has been designed in a way which will enable the capacity to be increased to a three-form entry facility should the need arise in the future.

The new school site would provide staff with state-of-the-art facilities, creating a better learning experience for pupils attending the school.  The energy efficient building has been designed with photo-voltaic panels, a natural ventilation system and passive measures to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions.

Proposed site plan

The relocation of the school would actively encourage sustainable methods of travel to and from school by utilising walking, cycling and scooter routes, which have been developed as part of the overall masterplan of the Gilden Way development.

The new school would be part funded by S106 contributions.  The additional funding required would be met by the total surplus generated by the redevelopment of the existing school site.  The new school would, of course, be fully operational before the existing school was closed.
